Life in the ICU

Since I was booted from the ER thanks hubby. I have been in the ICU 2 months now. I have come to appreciate the art of nursing from an ICU perspective. There is so much to think about from the many drips they are on, to the results from labs, xrays etc. Don't get me wrong I did think about these things when I was in the ER too. But in the ICU you really get to know you patients. You know their family. You know how hard it is on them, and how much they hurt to see their family member there.

But I also think when did the sons or daughters become Dr's? I treat my patients with care, and the best of intentions. I hate to think that since you watched 2 episodes on Discovery health that you know everything, and can make all the decisions. We study medicine so we can know what would work best on your parent. I am not sticking them with medicines, and drips just for fun. You said you wanted everything done for your mama now let us do it.

That's like me watching CSI and thinking I can go be a cop or detective now? Let me work please. And remember I will talk to you about everything I am doing to your parent or loved one.

That's got to be so tough. Relatives (well meaning or not) trying to tell you what to do.

You have a great job. Thanks for caring.
